Callatis – Mangalia
Traces of a Greek colony in the heart of the southern seaside town
Callatis was founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC and lies today beneath the town of Mangalia. In the town centre you can see parts of the ancient defensive walls and the ruins of a basilica, and the Callatis Archaeology Museum shows finds from the necropolises. A few steps away stands the 16th-century Esmahan Sultan Mosque.
