Capidava Fortress
A Roman and Byzantine fortress high above the Danube
Capidava was built in the 2nd century AD, under Emperor Trajan, as part of the Roman defences along the Danube, and remained in use into the Byzantine period. Its thick walls and restored corner tower stand on a limestone terrace above the river, with wide views across the Danube and its floodplain.
